Knowledge of Normativity from the Sphere of the Religious
Research Field
In the European tradition, legal historical research has long focused on the history of state law and legal scholarship. The history of canon law has also been conducted primarily from the perspective of the scientification of law and in a Eurocentric manner. The modern distinction between law and religion not only fails to do justice to the complex interweaving of knowledge of normativity from the sphere of the religion and from other spheres. It can also hardly capture regimes of normativity of other than Western cultures. This Research Field gathers various research projects dealing with canon law, moral theology, the Roman Curia, with mission and cultural contacts between Christianity and other religions and their knowledge of normativity.
