Women and political strategies in Sengoku Japan (15th - 17th centuries)

This workshop aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the legal and social dynamics that shaped women's lives in Japan during a period of intense change and conflict. We invite all attendees to join us in this rich and engaging discussion on the intersection of gender, religion, and law in Japanese history by analysing Women’s Roles during the Siege of Osaka (1614-1615). Secondly, we will study the roles, statuses and practices concerning women in the Daimyō House Code Laws. Finally, we will discuss how Christianity impacted legal and social practices concerning women during 16th and 17th centuries Japan.
