Evidences of Truth: Francisco Rodrigues SJ (c. 1515–1573) and Normative Knowledge Production in Early Modern Portuguese Asia

Drawing upon the outcomes of previous workshops, this event will gather academics from Germany, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, the United States, France, Belgium, China, and Japan to discuss their contributions for the imminent volume dedicated to the writings of Francisco Rodrigues. A Jesuit priest active in sixteenth-century Portuguese Goa between 1556 and 1573, Rodrigues authored numerous casuistical texts that have significantly impacted successive generations of confessors across Iberian Asia.

The presentations will be conducted online, but we invite all interested parties to join us in the meeting room on the sixth floor of the Turmcarrée building for the discussions. If you are not around Frankfurt, it will be possible to participate in the event remotely through Zoom.

More on the upcoming volume can be found here.
