Members of the Frankfurt Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory (mpilhlt) are currently collaborating on a book for the Institute's series methodica – Einführungen in die rechtshistorische Forschung, which features introductions on how to do legal history in certain subdisciplines. The aim of methodica, therefore, is not to give an account of legal history, but rather to inform the next generation of researchers about certain methodological and practical issues, present the multitude of potential research approaches and provide extensive bibliographies on certain themes within the field.
The forthcoming volume is an introduction to research on the history of European law. As legal historians – in the narrow sense – have hardly begun to work on the history of EU law, the authors draw extensively on writings from other disciplines that have produced valuable research (contemporary historians, political scientists, sociologists, EU lawyers, etc).
Philip Bajon, managing editor of the forthcoming volume, will give an introduction to the textbook project and discuss two sample chapters.
All sessions of the MPI-TAU Transnational Legal History Workshop will be conducted on Zoom, and are based on pre-circulated papers. Registration for participation is required and open until one week prior to the event. Please register here.
