Prensa e conhecimento normativo no Brasil do século XIX: o caso da Gazeta dos Tribunais (1843-1846)

Based on the legal press published in Brazil during the first half of the 19th century, this talk analyzes the production of normative knowledge through the press, which was the media support par excellence of the 19th century. The talk focuses mainly on the Gazeta dos Tribunais, a legal newspaper founded in Rio de Janeiro by the jurist Francisco Alberto Teixeira de Aragão and circulated between 1843 and 1846. Its aim is to understand the press not only as an information vehicle on Law, but in its role in the production of normative knowledge outside the State sphere, precisely at the moment of consolidation of the Judiciary in the Empire of Brazil.
